This exercise emphasizes primarily the pectorals/chest muscles. One of the best exercises for carving striations across the chest! Good form, concentration of squeezing chest (pectoral) muscles together during the cross over movement and posture is very important for isolation of the pectoral muscles.

  • Stand between two pulleys, grasping one in each hand, feet in a staggered stance.
  • Chest is up, back straight, with abdominals drawn in tight toward your spin.
  • Extend your arms upward with elbows in line with shoulders, palms facing downward.
  • Bend your arms slightly at the elbow and keep them bent throughout the
movement, and bend slightly at the waist.
  • From this starting position, slowly pull the handles of the pulleys inward with a smooth motion until your hands cross over each other. (Do not lock out elbows).
  • While squeezing the pectoral/ chest muscles together, hold for a few seconds (this is very effective for etching striations in your pectorals).
  • Return to starting position and repeat movement.
  • Do 3-4 sets, 12-15 reps.
  • This exercise can also be done one arm at a time.
