July -- Forward Raise

This exercise works the shoulder, particularly the Anterior Deltoid. With the palms facing down, you will focus on the medial deltoid head regardless if the arm is in the front or side. When the palm is up, the anterior head is the focus regardless if the arm is in the front or side.

  • Stand in the forward position with the dumbbells in your hands.
  • Draw your belly button in.
  • Raise your arms while rotating them to the palms-up position.
  • Be sure to keep a slight bend in your elbows, they should not be in a locked position.

Tips on Form:
Rotate your arms so that your palms face up when you are halfway between your sides and the top position. Be sure not to jerk the weight up at the beginning of each repetition.

Be sure you do not use to heavy of resistance that momentum is used to lift the weight. Do not keep arms straight; they should have a slight bend.
