December -- The Knee Drop

The last exercise of the year and of course it had to be one for the abdominals.  The knee drop is an advanced exercise that targets the lower abdominals and obliques.  During this holiday season, try this exercise to help work off those extra calories consumed.  It will also aid in getting your abs back in shape for the New Year!  You’ll need a medicine ball for the added resistance.  As you progress, you can make it more challenging by using heavier medicine balls.

    • Lie on back with hands behind ears.  Hips and knees are bent; feet are on floor.
    • Place medicine ball between knees.  Keep lower back on floor throughout exercise.
    • Contract (draw in) abdominals and pull knees to chest.
    • Lower knees to left, bring them back to center, then return to starting position.
    • Repeat on right side, and alternate sides for each repetition.
    • Begin with 15 reps and work up to 30 reps on each side.
